Feeling the urge to try a sport at uni but after something which demands not to be taken too seriously? This event might be right up your street.

On Sunday 10th of March, Southampton University Dodgeball Club hold their annual tournament. Anyone who has seen the Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn film will be aware of the basic rules: throw balls at members of the opposite team while avoiding being hit yourself.

It might sound like a joke sport but with several of our players in the national team, there’s plenty of potential to go far if you find you have a particular knack for dodging!

Aside from being great relief from the stress of mid-semester deadlines, the level of competition at this event is perfect for beginners to the sport, with rules preventing each team having more than two players from the university squad.

Dodgeball club president Vicky Patey told The Tab what to expect:

We usually get a whole host of people from other sports societies come along and it’s always interesting to see what sport will come out on top! Don’t assume rugby will win this, it’s not all about power!”

Whoever takes the overall victory, a great afternoon is in store for players and spectators. It all gets underway on Sunday at 1pm at Taunton’s College. For more details, check the Facebook event here.
