SUSU Shop Sold HORSE Lasagne

It appears our own Students’ Union was another victim of the horse meat fiasco.

A notice spotted in the SUSU Shop today featured an apology from Findus, a firm at the heart of the horse meat contamination affair. It explained that all sizes of Findus ‘Beef’ Lasagne were affected. Their own investigation revealed that:

the horse meat found in Beef Lasagne was not accidental

SUSU said:

Our retail team have been monitoring the situation and the official guidance from Findus. A number of their beef products have been affected and the contaminated lines were removed from sale in The Shop and returned to our supplier as soon as we were made aware that they had been withdrawn. In light of some student concern and following further uncertainty surrounding processed beef products, we subsequently removed all Findus beef products from our shelves to give our members peace of mind. The Food Standards Agency have since tested and cleared all other beef products manufactured by Findus, as can be seen in this official statement on the Findus website at www.findus.co.uk. As such, we have resumed the sale of the cleared products alongside a copy of the statement in order to maintain transparency and allow our members to decide whether they wish to purchase other products from Findus. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure that our members have access to excellent value and will always endeavour to take swift action if health concerns are raised over products that we stock.

In other news, University Catering were apparently unaffected by the scandal, posting a Facebook status last week which featured confirmation that they did not source their meat from the dodgy suppliers implicated.
