Solent NHS is aiming to break a Guinness World Record by testing as many people for chlamydia as possible in one day.

The NHS are asking for young people aged fifteen to twenty-four living in Hampshire to take part in a mass screening exercise to test for Chlamydia on the 14th February.

Their team will be handing out free testing kits, which will involve taking a simple urine sample, with no need for examining your private parts. If tested positive, treatment is simple and only consists of a course of antibiotics.

It’s estimated that 1 in 14 young people have chlamydia.

All participants will receive a pair of special ‘record breaking’ pants, badges and wristbands to mark their involvement on the day. One lucky person will win an iPad too.

Their aim is to break the Guinness World Record for the most Chlamydia screening tests taken in twenty-four hours, currently standing at 501.

The NHS advises that if you’re sexually active, you should get tested each year and after a new sexual partner.

The places in Soton taking part in the world record attempt are:

  • Southampton Solent University – 10am-5pm
  • Yates’s (Above Bar Street) – from 10pm
