Ironically, the side of the van reads “Driving Standards”

Just before 4AM today, a lorry has smashed through traffic lights on the Avenue at the junction with Burgess Road, coming to a rest just inches from the Boldrewood Campus construction site.

Damage caused to the traffic light system means that there is no traffic control on one of Southampton’s busiest roads. Delays are described as severe and are affecting Uni-Link services U2, U6 and U9.

Work begins on the recovery effort

The lorry driver suffered a minor cut after the collision with a Vauxhall Zafira at 3.47am

Due to the location of the crash, work to remove the stricken vehicle has only just begun after rush hour has passed. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and we’d say get the U1 into town instead.
