The fire last month in Roosters Piri Piri which shocked the student community of Portswood started in an extractor duct, fire services have confirmed. Roosters will re-open in early 2013.

Roosters have confirmed that they will re-open to satisfy our need for piri piri chicken early next year but have not said an exact date.

Fire fighters from Winchester and Eastleigh were needed to control the chaos

As reported by the Soton Tab, Roosters on Portswood Road was the centre of attention as smoke billowed out the front and rear of the restaurant.

EIGHT fire engines and specialist equipment units were needed to extinguish the fire which took over an hour to control. The fire started at just past 11am and occurred in a ducting system. Hampshire Fire and Rescue also confirmed that 5 people were led to safety and that there were no injuries.

The section of Portswood Road from Westridge Road to St Denys Road was blocked off whilst fire fighters tackled the blaze.

Last month Portswood saw 2 fires in 2 days. Some students have suggested that fires in Portswood are now as common as the number of charity shops along the high street.

A fire also hit the High Wycombe branch on the same weekend causing damage. That branch is also due to open at the beginning of next year.
