The incident occurred near Gordon Avenue in the heart of Portswood
An appeal for witnesses is underway after reports of a sexual assault on a female who was attacked inside a vehicle in the early hours of Wednesday morning. It is believed that the woman, who could potentially be a student, was on her way home and was sexually assaulted between 12 and 12:40am on Wednesday 3rd October.
A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary told the Soton Tab:
The assault took place in a car and the woman was dropped off near Gordon Avenue. She is not injured and is being supported by police, receiving specialist victim support.
The woman was on her way home when the incident happened. Police believe that this act is an isolated incident and are appealing for information with their investigations. Anyone with information should contact Hampshire police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Portswood has a history of sexual assaults against young women. Back in March a spate of attacks forced students to be vigilant and not go out alone. Students should consider carrying rape alarms and remain aware of their surroundings.
