iSolutions have confirmed that the University of Southampton is under attack from a rapidly mutating computer virus.
The infection began from infected machines connecting to the campus network. This rendered much of the staff filestore system compromised. The virus is not contained and is mutating frequently. In order to combat this infection, users are urged to report any infection immediately to ServiceLine. Your PC can become infected by connecting to the Campus network in ANY way, including Wi-Fi and VPN. This virus is not solely affecting the University of Southampton and is thought to be circulating around the Higher Education sector.

What to do if you think your computer is infected:
- Call ServiceLine on extension 25656 (internal)02380 595656 (external)
- Your name, username and a contact telephone number
- When this happened (date/time)The name of your PC (i.e. UOS-123456 or ISS-123456 if a University PC, or your own personal PC name if non-University)
Prevention is better than cure so ensure that your anti-virus system is updated and if you are really concerned don’t connect to the University network in any way.
