At 9AM this morning fire broke out in a scrapyard down at Southampton Docks, causing a disgusting toxic fug to engulf Portswood and beyond.

Apparently five tonnes of metal caught alight in the middle of a huge fifty thousand tonne stack. We’re not entirely sure why this happened but judging by the potent smell there was a load of rubber and plastic in the mix as well.

It looked like a rubbish volcano

Thirty five fire fighters are on the scene down at the George V dry docks on Western Avenue, so the fire should be fully extinguished by this evening.

Luckily, there are no reports of any injuries so far but incident commander Mickey Smither recommends that locals stay inside and keep out of the fumes.
