Another day, another murder in Southampton
Luke O'BrienLate on Monday night, firefighters discovered a body in a burning car in the leafy village of Chilworth. Police have now confirmed they have commenced a murder enquiry.
In a grisly week for firefighters and police in Southampton, this case bares similarities to the Portswood “body in a bin” Both the victims were young men and both are thought to have been murdered prior to being set alight, perhaps in an attempt to destroy forensic evidence.
Chilworth is located just 5 minutes out of Southampton and is home to the University’s Science Park and the Vice-Chancellor’s mansion. The scene of the fire, Chilworth Drove, is a secluded country road off the A27.
A vehicle like this is being sought by police
Police have appealed for sightings of a silver two-door Mercedes C200 CDI. Anyone who saw the blaze or anything suspicious in the area, should ring 101 quoting Operation Wedgewood or the Crimestoppers charity line on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
