Headlining with a major name helps

Saturday nights at The Cube have been notoriously difficult to get right. Several promotion companies have been and gone, including SUgar and Boogaloo. Now comes the next contender, Rubix. This club night is the brainchild of presidential candidate Charlie Torrible and its first night appears to have been a success.

Rubix’s headline act for its launch night was DJ Fresh, a big name in Drum n Bass and Dubstep and responsible for last years club hit Gold Dust. He did not disappoint, coming on stage around 1AM and performing an outstanding DJ set featuring hits from throughout the genre. Come 2AM when the lights came on, there were chants of “ONE MORE TUNE” It was at this point security insisted the crowd dispersed and the night was over.

One student, speaking to The Tab stated:

The night felt completely different, not like Twisted or any other Cube night.

At the time of writing, attendance figures were not available but amongst the rainbow colours of campaign teams there were many non-students and non-campaigners alike enjoying the evening.

The success of this event will come as a great boost to Mr Torrible’s election chances but it remains the be seen whether the momentum of this event can be maintained.
