Sheffield uni accommodation 2024

Everything upcoming freshers ACTUALLY need to know about Uni of Sheffield accommodation

Just a heads up!

A-Level Results Day is finally here, and it’s all starting to feel incredibly real, isn’t it? I remember the exact moment when it hit me – I was about to move to a completely new city in just a few weeks. Suddenly, all sorts of questions started racing through my mind: How many knives and forks do I actually need? What meals will I cook besides the classic “stir in sauce” pasta? And, most importantly, who on earth will I be living with?

It’s an exciting yet daunting time, but don’t worry – this exclusive info should help ease some of your concerns and give you a heads up before arriving in Uni of Sheffield accommodation this September.

Attention Ranmoor and Endcliffe residents: Don’t be deceived!

Ranmoor and Endcliffe are the go-to spots for first years, located about a 30 minute trek from campus (longer if you’re a dawdling English Student trying to get to Mappin Street like me). Before uni, I got the impression that these areas were pretty much the same thing, though this is far from the truth. So, if you’re set to live in either of these places, here are the key differences you should know about…

Endcliffe is much bigger than Ranmoor

And with that comes more thumping music, longer waits for Circuit Laundry, and more general drunken chaos. After attending a house party in first year, where someone had converted their entire flat into a nightclub with glaring strobe lights and a DJ setup balanced on an ironing board, it became crystal clear as to why my course mates would pity me for living in “dead” Ranmoor, with an atmosphere like that.

Endcliffe is also around 10 minutes closer to campus,

This might sound like a perk. However, be prepared to face the dauntingly steep incline of Endcliffe Crescent which will have your calves burning as you rush to make your 9am. Just think of the thighs, ladies!

The Endcliffe lot also have more facilities

This includes the Village Store right on their doorstep, making those late-night sweet treat runs a lot easier, and The Edge which is a great social space/bar which I would definitely recommend going to on your first night!

So basically, if you’re heading to Endcliffe, get ready for everything you’d imagine: A wild, random and unforgettable Freshers’ year to be. And also, there’s a stray cat named Harold that seems to be quite Instagram famous, so keep an eye out!

But what about Ranmoor?

Though if any of you are night-out loving Ranmoor students, please don’t be put off, you are also in for quite the year. To be honest, when I was last minute assigned to Kinder Apartments, I did panic slightly about the social scene since my flat only had five people, with two of those in studios. Only three people in the kitchen to talk to? No thanks…

However, I discovered very soon that surrounding flats were incredibly open to getting to know each other, hosting lots of parties that everyone was welcome to. I became close friends with the flat of 10 across the hall, and we ended up going out every week, some of us living together in our second and third years. And so – not to worry! It’s not nearly as dead as the Endcliffers make out.

Though sadly no shop, Ranmoor does have The Ridge, which is a nice social space with a gym and a pool table. Though I personally couldn’t think of anything worse than running on the treadmill, the pool table was a huge hit with my friends, and then eventually with me when I finally stopped potting the opposing teams’ balls. This was a lovely way to spend the more chilled evenings.

Therefore, if you’re heading to Ranmoor instead, expect a place where you can have fun and socialise while also getting a decent night’s sleep when you’re done.

All for convenience in city centre accommodation

And as for you students heading to the city campuses, all I can say to you is well done! You have cracked it. Out of all the Sheffield Uni accommodation options for 2024, you have taken the smart approach.

You’re probably all aware of the of the huge, steep hills that Sheffield has to offer – in fact it’s probably the first thing said when you mentioned that you wanted to come here, aside from comments about steel, Henderson’s Relish, Arctic Monkeys and so on.

The problem with these hills is that they cause for aching muscles, a sweaty upper lip and the need to take two minutes to catch your breath at the start of each lecture. However, if you’re a city student, congratulations! With a 10 minute walk to uni at most, you might actually have time to eat your breakfast.

Each city centre based Sheffield Uni accommodation in 2024 has an amazing social and study space, more up-to-date décor and also a free gym at Allen Court. These residences are only a short walk from café’s, cinemas, supermarkets and of course West Street – which holds the most beloved student bars that you don’t have to fuss about getting an Uber back from.

So, if you have chosen Sheffield Uni accommodation for 2024 in the city, then look forward to rubbing it in to your mates that your walk home from uni is a fraction of theirs.
