Counter-protestors drown out far-right protestors in Sheffield

Far-right protestors demonstrating in Sheffield were drowned out by counter-protestors over the weekend.
Anti-immigration protestors were vastly outnumbered by those who came to oppose them in the city centre on Sunday 4th August.
The counter-protestors were made up of a variety of groups including the TUC and Stand up to Racism, as well as a large amount of members of the public.
Videos posted to social media show a far-right protestor holding an England flag being attacked and beaten to the ground. He was later seen with his face bloodied, being attended to by police officers.
Events in Sheffield this weekend were part of a wave of protests, violence and rioting that has followed the killings of three girls in Southport last week.
After the killings, misinformation spread online about the alleged perpetrator’s identity. Starting in Southport itself, far-right groups have targeted mosques, hotels housing asylum seekers and non-white people in general.
In Rotherham, rioters attacked a Holiday Inn housing refugees and attempted to set it alight.
The Prime Minister has condemned those rioting, accusing them of “far-right thuggery.”
He addressed the nation on Sunday, saying: “Be in no doubt: Those who have participated in this violence will face the full force of the law.”
