The Tab Sheffield is recruiting – and we want YOU!

You know you want to

The Tab Sheffield is on the lookout for new writers to join our team! Whether you want some fantastic experience for your CV, or just want to meet new people and have a laugh, we think you should deffo sign up.

The Tab has an audience of over six million readers every month, and you can be part of a student news and life site that people actually read. The Tab Sheffield has over 20,000 likes on Facebook alone, so no matter if you want to call out your uni for letting students down, or make your fellow students laugh with banging features, you can be sure your work will be read.

Break the biggest stories on campus, without uni censorship

The Tab is independent of the uni, and this means that we cannot be shut down or censored. This year, we’ve broken some of the biggest stories on campus – including when the Arts Tower went into lockdown, students reacted to the UCU strikes, and when we beat The Times to expose that the uni’s Career Service was recruiting for the Hong Kong police.

If you want to be a journalist, there’s nothing better for your CV.

Learn and gain experience

Our team will give you feedback on everything you write, and give you the opportunity to learn new skills. We’ll show you the legal requirements needed to publish safely, as well as give you tips on how to become the best writer, and skills you may not know already – like how to send off a Freedom of Information Request, to expose stories like the extortionate amount of money spent on pianos by the uni.

Have fun

Make new friends and meet new people, as well as do something you love. We work hard, but (sorry for the cliche) we play harder – and once lockdown is lifted there will be plenty of Tab socials and nights out.

If you love writing and want to meet new people, then you’ll love The Tab.

Write what you want

If you have an idea, then you can pitch it to one of our editors. Whether it’s a banging meme that will smash on our socials, a fun feature which accurately says what your fav Sheff clubs and pubs say about you, or a hard-hitting and important article explaining how Sheffield students can support Black Lives Matter, our content is varied – and you decide what you want to write.

So, how do I sign up?

Simply drop us a message on our Facebook or Instagram, and we’ll take it from there!
