Pop Tarts and TTC are cancelled because of coronavirus

Put down those VKs

Sheffield SU have cancelled tonight’s Pop Tarts over the coronavirus crisis.

The favourite club night, this week going by the theme “pink tarts”, was axed after the Uni of Sheffield announced all teaching is moving online from Monday.

It emerged on Friday that a member of staff in the School of Architecture had got Covid-19, sparking a lockdown of ten floors of the Arts Tower for deep cleaning.

Vice-chancellor Koen Lamberts said there have also been a “small number” of suspected student and staff cases.

The Foundry decided that “a densely packed club potentially poses a risk to students and staff”, prompting them to cancel a series of events. These are:

– Pop Tarts – 14.03.20

– The Tuesday Club – Four Tet (17.03.20)

– Vybez (20.03.20)

– The Tuesday Club – Josey Rebelle (24.03.20)

– Palace (28.03.20)

– The Tuesday Club – My Nu Leng & M8s (31.03.20)

– Bummit trip (6.04.20)

Refunds will be automatically given, and for updates on all other SU events you can check: sheffieldsu.com/coronavirus.

The deadly bug sweeping the UK has seen cases surge to 1,145 and the death toll has doubled in 24 hours to hit 21. Three cases have been recorded in Sheffield.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Friday that some large gatherings will be banned from next weekend in a bid to contain the pandemic.
