Man arrested after shot fired on Ecclesall Road

It happened in a fight

A man has been arrested after a shot was fired on a popular Sheffield student street last night.

The shooting happened just before 11pm outside the cocktail bar Kettle Black on Ecclesall Road.

A 24-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of possessing a bladed article and a handgun.

He is said to have hit a 36-year-old male with the gun in the bar, and at some point in the altercation it was fired at the ground, police said.

The victim was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries caused by an assault, not the gunshot. The suspect is still in police custody.

An investigation has been launched and officers remain in the area. On Saturday they carried out searches in the Ponderosa, Upperthorpe, for evidence relating to the assault.

Ecclesall Road is a popular living destination for Uni of Sheffield and Hallam students.
