BREAKING: Armed police cordon off part of Kelham Island

It’s thought to be a counter-terrorism operation


Part of Kelham Island has been cordoned off in what is thought to be a counter-terrorism operation.

According to reports, a flat was raided at around 5.30 pm this afternoon near Shalesmoor tram stop and Dunn Street remains closed.

Around 100 officers are at the scene, with half of them said to be armed.

On the scene are also two bomb disposal squads and multiple ambulances and fire engines.

In a just released statement from the North East Counter Terrorism Unit, they said that two men, aged 24 and 29 had been arrested in Huddersfield and Sheffield, and that the operation is based on recently received intelligence.
