Pineapple on Pizza is not weird, it’s delicious

Time to ditch the basic margarita and ‘pepperoni passion’ and live a little

Since the dawn of the Hawaiian pizza, opinions on this wondrous creation have been divided. I for one did not have much to say on the matter until the day that changed my life. Yes, I am referring to the day I tasted pineapple on pizza. The sweetness of the pineapple on top of a soft dough with layers of cheesiness and tangy tomato (which, FYI is a fruit) is simply heaven.

Pizza should create friends, not enemies

Too many times I have received hate for liking pineapple pizza. Those of you who find yourself tagging an innocent pineapple loving friend in pineapple hating Facebook memes, here is why you should stop the madness:

It’s not marmite

‘You either love it or hate it’ might apply to marmite, which I’m sorry, really is disgusting, but pineapple pizza can not and should not experience the same amount of hate any longer. To be honest if you can stomach marmite, there should really be no issues with a bit of fruit on pizza.

The people have spoken

Chinese menu’s don’t get the same hate

Sweet and Sour is probably one of the most well-known Chinese dishes. It is renowned for being a totally generic dish, a go-to option for anyones first Chinese takeaway because it’s tasty and goes great with egg fried rice. No one seems fussed by the chunks of pineapple mixed with meat and veg in this meal, so why is it such an issue on pizza? Just face it, the sweet taste of pineapple works wonders in pretty much any meal. And if you’re thinking ‘well I don’t eat the pineapple in the sweet and sour’, just sit back down please. The juices are 100% in the sauce. How do you think it tastes so good?

No one likes a fussy eater

Tastebuds are an extraordinary thing. A gift really. If you claim to be a massive foodie but have not even tried pineapple pizza amongst other stereotypically strange but nonetheless great combos, then you are definitely a fussy foodie. If your stomach could talk, it would be slating you for opting for a meat feast pizza yet again. My advice to you is simple: don’t knock it till you try it. Give your tastebuds some variation before they resent you forever.

Classic case of denial

You don’t have to sacrifice other toppings

The great thing about pineapple is it really can work with just about anything. Many believe that it is restricted to the Hawaiian combo of ham and pineapple. That might be the traditional flavour, but pizza places have the ‘create your own’ option for a reason. If you’re vegetarian, pair it with some mushrooms or sweetcorn. If you prefer chicken over ham, no ones stopping you. Find a pineapple variation thats a match made in heaven and never look back.

Variation is key

If it’s on the menu, you can’t call it weird

Clearly a lot of us are enjoying our pineapple pizzas if restaurants make the effort to serve it. The menu has spoken, so let us stop the hate and finally acknowledge pineapple as a topping deserving of a place on all pizza menus. And hats off to dominos already for not discriminating against our prickly pal.

It’s even above meat feast- what does that tell you?

We still appreciate just how amazing pizza is

You might judge a persons choice of pizza topping but ultimately we pizza-lovers are all the same. We all see pizza as a vital comfort food and hangover cure. Imagining a world without pizza is simply impossible. Even though I strongly believe pineapple should be given a chance, we should be teaming together to tackle a much larger issue: People who don’t like cheese.
