Bomb scare in city centre forces road closure

A bomb squad is on the way

The discovery of three WW2 bombs has forced a part closure of Matilda Street in town.

Police have said that “three devices” have been found in the city centre and are suspected to be World War II ammunition.

The bombs were discovered by builders on a disused building site, just down the street from Plug.

The area has been cordoned off by police, with vehicles and cyclists being denied access. Police have said they may be evacuating the area.

The police are now liaising with an army bomb disposal unit, in order to remove the found devices.

Bombs of this nature are unlikely to explode, however their threat should not be underestimated – they still contain explosives so should be handled with care.
