So apparently Dabbing Society is now a thing

They’re going to hold Dab-themed socials

With the new university year on the horizon, a groundbreaking society has materialised and is gaining momentum by the day: DabSoc.

Following the internet fuelled phenomenon of “dabbing” coming to light this year, three masters students, Matthew Wilman, Luke Boden, and Greg Warhurst decided Sheffield Uni was in need of an official society.

Less than 24 hours after it’s creation, the society’s official Facebook page has already racked up 46 members and counting.

When discussing their pioneering society, their president,Matthew Wilman spoke proudly, saying: “Of course Sheffield needs a dabbing society. It is something that we take seriously, and we want to connect with like-minded dabbers. What started as a very small group has turned into the next big thing at Sheff Uni.”

Social sec, Luke Boden agreed, saying: “Dabbing is great fun, an interesting conversation starter, bit of exercise and great for the soul. That is why I think Sheffield needs a society.

“I have been a long time dabber. I did my first one as a joke, imitating a friend I had seen but almost instantly knew it was my calling.”

There are plans of going on tour and field trips

Grouped alongside sport societies, in particular rivaling the Sabrecats, DabSoc hopefuls are on tenterhooks as to what the social side of it will be like. Will their socials be as mad as the lacrosse team’s, or the initiations as brutal as the rugby lads?

Luke disclosed very little on this matter, mysteriously saying: “We are still formulating intricate plans, and everything will remain a secret for now. But we have a lot of interest currently so initiations and socials are going to be huge!” The socials will be multi-themed, dab events taking place at people’s houses, halls, and in bars and clubs.

The committee want to encourage as many people to join and dab with them, even those who are less confident. They have even appointed Greg Warhurst as ‘dab coach’, so whether people have dabbed before, or want to give something new a go, they are more than welcome.

Luke gave some words of encouragement saying: “To those new to dabbing I say this – I have been there. I was once too shy to let my real self shine through. To dab in the situations no one else was willing, to have all eyes on me with the use of one simple move.

“But, Dabbing is not something to be scared of or ashamed of, it is a gift. A gift that we, as a society, consider wrong not to shared with the masses. In the words of the late great Muhammad Ali, ‘Float like a butterfly, Dab like a bee'”.
