Dan Bean set to open Friery franchise in the IC

It’s a bid to combat exam stress

We’ve had stress busting puppy rooms, yoga classes and free survival packs on the concourse, but this summer our uni are taking it up a notch with a pop up Friery in the IC.

The uni have confirmed that the temporary franchise will be open from the 9th May right through to the end of the official exam period June 11th, and if successful, will re-open again in time for January exams.

The decision comes following the results of the 2015 Student Experience Survey, through which many students voiced concerns about the poor library catering facilities.

It’s believed the opening of the Diamond in September also significantly eased pressure on workspaces, meaning the Level One silent study room in the IC could be closed off for the conversion.

Due to resource constraints the pop up will be running a more limited menu, featuring just 3 of the classics: the Boromir Burger, the Ned Stark burger, and the regular chicken nuggets. Chips will be available with, cheese, gravy, or in a progressive new move for the Friery, gluten free.

Friery owner and all round local enigma Dan Bean told The Tab: “I just really wanted to give something back to a community that has given so much to me. The students are my life and it’s really important they just stay spiritual and stay calm in exams.

“I think it’ll be my biggest challenge yet to be running the two takeaways at the same the time but I know with the help of my family and hot yoga I can do it.”

A University spokesperson added: “We’re very pleased to have signed the contract with Dan and look forward to welcoming his culinary expertise onto campus. Pop up restaurants are all the rage right now, we wanted to tap into the trend, take advantage of the extra space and listen to what people actually want. Those fantastic student experience scores don’t come from nowhere.”

The Level One silent study room will be closed from the start of term.
