City centre street closed off after man climbs onto multi-storey car park

It took 45 minutes to talk him down

A man was talked down from the top of the NCP car park roof earlier today in the city centre.

Amateur footage captured the man perched over the edge of the multi-storey block before police officers quickly arrived on the scene and closed Eyre Street and Matilda Street to passing traffic and pedestrians.

Specialists eventually talked the man down, while paramedics remained on stand-by at the scene.

The man was on top of the NCP car park

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “A man who was seen on the edge of a multi-storey car park in central Sheffield has been brought to safety by police.

“Police were called to the car park in Eyre Street at 10.15am this morning and after speaking to the man for around 45 minutes, he was brought to safety.

“Eyre Street and Matilda Street were closed while officers dealt with the incident.”
