A man has died after being hit by a train at Meadowhall station

A 25-year-old Sheffield man died after being hit by a train at Meadowhall station on Tuesday evening.

British Transport Police have confirmed his death is not being treated as suspicious, and an inquest is now due to be opened.

The man was struck just before 5pm, resulting in delays for several hours throughout South Yorkshire as the lines around the station were closed.

There were severe delays all evening

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Our officers were called to Meadowhall railway station yesterday, Tuesday, 16 February at around 4.55pm following reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended but a 25-year-old man from the Sheffield area was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and the man’s family have been informed.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
