The David Bowie mural on Division Street is dividing opinion because it doesn’t look like Bowie

‘Did they use snapchat filters?’

There’s a new mural on Division Street to mark music legend David Bowie’s life and everyone is split about it.

The mural, created by grafitti artist trik09, popped up in the popular student area overnight and has received criticism for its depiction of the late star.

The mural comes after the world mourned the death of the the pop culture icon last month at the age of 69 from an 18-month battle with cancer.

After seeing the completed artwork, many questioned the resemblance of it to Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust album cover Aladdin Sane.

Many twitter users have instead said that the mural looks more like TV presenter Pat Sharp and one critic sarcastically asked if it was Ben Stiller in Zoolander.

Ridiculing the tribute, Jon Adams wrote: “A novel idea would have a tribute that looks like Bowie, who is that a picture of?”

Ken Shabby commented: “Yes! I think Sheffield has been crying out for a painting of Vincent from Beauty and the Beast for decades. At last!”

The reaction on Facebook was slightly more forgiving with Heather Hillis adding: “I know the artist that did this & I can tell you that he can draw & he’s an incredible graff artist.”
