Tab Campaign: Deadlines should be extended after uni internet meltdown

Janet lost her shit again

Following yesterday’s Sheffield wide Eduroam shut down, the Vice Chancellor has been asked to extend upcoming coursework and dissertation deadlines.
The drama, which also saw Mole and Minerva servers break down, left everyone unable to access University services or use the wifi around campus, sparking outrage among those with upcoming deadlines and exams.
While some departments were generous and extended yesterdays deadlines by a day, the chair of the SU Council has written to to the Vice and Deputy Chancellors asking them to have some compassion on those with deadlines over the next few weeks too.

Adam Hanrahan told The Tab: “I know a number of people who use google docs to do coursework and have been unable to do any work all day. No one reads articles at the library and so not being able to access the university servers will have had a real effect in putting people behind on their coursework through absolutely no fault of their own.
“This will have had a serious effect on all levels. I know that people have deadlines this week and some third years have dissertations due in during the first were of February.
“I have emailed Keith Burnett, the University Vice-Chancellor as well as Shearer West and Wyn Morgan who are the Deputy VC and the Pro VC for teaching and learning calling on them to extend the coursework deadline and to show some compassion to students who will have been effected by this.
“I would urge anyone who suffers from anxiety or anything similar, who has had any issues stemming from today, to get in touch with the University Health Service.”
