A light dusting of snow is expected to fall in Sheffield this evening, with temperatures reaching lows of minus three degrees.

Forecasters from the Met have predicted snow and sleet this evening, after reporting an arctic air mass is set to hit the country this weekend.

However, it might not be time to whack out the wellies yet, with only one or two centimetres of snow set to settle on the ground.

The Met said: “A swathe of gale force north to northwesterly winds, accompanied by a band of rain and snow, will move south across much of central and southern Britain on Friday night and Saturday.

“Some of the snow may settle, this more likely over some of the high ground, but there is a possibility of temporary settling snow even at low levels.

“On Saturday morning, ice will be an additional hazard.”

Laura Bell, a second year studying English is one of many excited by the news of snow.

She said: “Im ridiculously keen for this, I feel like a child.

“I don’t even care that it’s only a few centimetres, with the hazardous hills in Sheffield this definitely still constitutes a snow day.”

Dannie Bennett a Social Policy and Criminology finalist said: “It’s so dangerous in Sheffield when theres ice.

“Hopefully it’s sunny tomorrow and it all just melts.”
