A man has died after being hit by a van on Crookes Valley Road

A 30 year-old-man has been arrested


A man died last night following a collision on Crookes Valley Road.

At around 9:25pm a blue Ford Transit van and a bicycle were involved in collision near to the junction with Oxford Street.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

The man riding the bicycle suffered fatal injuries and died.

He is believed to be in his twenties but has not yet been identified.

The van reportedly failed to stop at the scene, and was involved in further collisions with stationary vehicles in the Providence Road area of Walkley a short time later.

The road was closed from Mushroom Lane to Harcourt Road junction

The van was later recovered in Stannington and a 30-year old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drunk or drugs and causing death by careless driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs.

He remains in custody and will be questioned by officers this morning.

The road was closed in both directions from Mushroom Lane to Harcourt Road junction for several hours last night, with people being diverted on foot through Crookes Valley Park.
