IC mayhem: Library operates ‘one in one out’ policy

You don’t get shit like this in Western Bank

Despite six vast floors and a capacity of thousands, the IC was forced to shut its doors on Monday afternoon and adopt a “one-in one-out” policy.

The chaos came at around 3.30pm, prime middle of the day study time for many students.

Despite still being six weeks away from the official exam season, the keen and pro-active among us clearly cannot keep away.

At this rate there’ll be bouncers by January

One student said they went out for a cigarette, and then wasn’t allowed back in for another ten minutes.

Alison Little, Assistant Director of Library Customer Relations, said: “There are times when the IC is full and, during those times, capacity is managed to prevent the building becoming overcrowded.

“We take this approach to ensure the safety of our students and staff and the quality of the study environment  During these times, students may experience a brief delay in entering the IC.

“We understand the demand for study space and are addressing it in a number of ways. From January 2015, we will extend opening at Western Bank Library until midnight five days a week throughout the academic session.

“In September 2015, we will also make almost 1,000 study spaces available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in The Diamond”

Thank God.
