It’s not all bad news

| UPDATED

The number of reported crimes on campus has plummeted by a huge 49% since 2009-2010, with 159 crimes being reported last year.

This is following a crime prevention partnership between the University of Sheffield, the Students Union and South Yorkshire Police.

Following a spate of Crookes and Broomhill burglaries in the new academic year, this news will be a breath of fresh air to us all.

There’s been several reported burglaries in the Crookes area

Head of Security Services, Richard Yates said “The reduction of student burglary is one of our key priorities, it is the mission of the University Security Services to ensure that we do everything within our power to make the environment as safe as possible.”

Taking place this week (10th-14th November) is Crime Prevention week, which aims to raise awareness among students about how they can prevent themselves and their homes from being targeted by thieves. You can pick up free property marking kits on the concourse and also speak to professionals from a variety of services including South Yorkshire Police, the security team and local charities.
