Hottest Hallowe’en on record hits Sheffield

South Yorkshire reached the positively Saharan temperature of 18°C in late October

A Hallowe’en Heatwave swept Sheffield in the week building up to Friday 31st October, causing the city’s warmest Halloween since records began.

The soaring temperatures peaked at 18.8°C, seven degrees higher than the average of the rest of October.

Experienced Sheffielders certainly won’t have got used to the pleasant climate however, as temperatures have immediately plummeted to the depressingly low and much less unusual temperature of 2°C the following week.

We wouldn’t expect anything less, Sheffield.

The obvious upside of the high temperatures was that West Street party-goers could wear as few clothes as possible in their bids to make “Sexy Zombie” look original.

The roasting heat combined with Hallowe’en falling on a Friday this year combined to cause carnage along West Street, but did anyone actually notice the temperature through the beer jacket?

“It rained anyway. I wasn’t happy about that”, said James, a second year Civil Engineer. Classic Sheffield.

Electrical Engineer/cross dresser Jack opined that “It wasn’t warm! I was freezing!”

That’s that settled then. Even when it’s warm, a combination of rain, wind and a Tinker Bell outfit will still give you the chills.

Nippy

Sheffield LADs embraced the Mediterranean temperatures with vigour and a general enthusiasm towards short skirts.

Overall, the warmth of this year’s Halloween was a bit of an irrelevance. As always, the Leadmill queue was damp, your accommodation is still freezing and your Balti King Korma was definitely still cold.

In future, ignore the weather man and wear a costume that involves a mac and some thick socks. Or you could just paint half of your face like a skull again.
