Student’s car stolen whilst at Pop Tarts

Crookesmoor house ransacked in new wave of burglaries

| UPDATED

A house in Crookes was ransacked by burglars last Saturday, as its occupants spent the early hours in Pop Tarts.

A car, several laptops and jewellery were stolen.

“One of our housemates and her boyfriend came back from Poptarts about 01:20am, instantly she noticed her car was missing.” Said second year Biomed student, Rosie.

“She then checked round the others rooms and noticed the other valuables had been taken too.”

This follows a recent wave of burglaries in Crookes, Crookesmoor and Broomhill

“Even though we locked all the doors upon leaving we think left a very small kitchen window open”

“We found a footprint and scuffs on the outside window-ledge, so we think that’s how the burglar got in. Because they closed it behind them we hadn’t even realised.”

South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that an incident took place between 11:30pm on Saturday 27 September and 1:30am on the Sunday morning, but left no further comment.

Luckily, the car has since been recovered by police.

Police have urged students to be security conscious

South Yorkshire Police also confirmed another burglary took place in Crookes the night previously, in which laptop and an iPad were stolen in a ‘Sneak-in’ burglary.

This follows a wave of recent burglaries targeting students in the Crookes, Crookesmoor and Broomhill area.

Officers have carried out inquiries in the area and are conducting door to door advice, reminding students to be security conscious and keep all doors locked even when in the property.
