Freshers week has drawn to a close and many of us are not only feeling physically and emotionally broken, but severely out of pocket too.

As hordes of Freshers descended on Sheffield for yet another year of debauchery, we’ve calculated a standard Freshers night out comes to £28.50.

Over the week, given you’ll have had one night off (any more and you’re not doing it right), that’s a a staggering £171 on club nights alone.

And that’s not even factoring in the hangover absorbing carbs for the next day.

£6 for 350ml Sainsbury’s vodka and £2 for diet coke mixer.

Therefor an £8 minimum if you want to get fully inebriated.

Essential for withstanding those cattle-like queues and sobering up en route.

Taxi ‘s

£2/4 there and back generally. Except there’s always one who “doesn’t have any cash”.

Sheffield Freshers Where’s Wally night was a full £8 entry. Scandalous.

Drinks there

A drink per hour, plus one token beverage on entry, is a fair rule of thumb for the club.

Ryan Blackett, a third year Chinese Studies and Japanese student, said “I guess you never really think about the price of a night out.

I usually buy a bottle of vodka or something for pre-drinks and that lasts me two or three nights. On average, I normally take £20 out with me, but I did feel like it was cheaper in my first year”
