Full-of-fails: Falafel King scores hideous hygiene rating

Popular haunt Falafel King scores abysmal food hygiene rating

Food Standards Agency records have revealed  fast-food favourite Falafel King to be among one of the worst rated eateries in Sheffield.

Hygiene inspectors from the Food Standard Agency slammed a shockingly low 1 out 5 rating on the Middle Eastern takeaway – demanding a major improvement in food safety.

The damning inspection also reports little confidence in management with poor hazard prevention and no food safety system.

The Egyptian pyramid themed takeaway on Glossop Road is both a popular lunchtime haunt and a late night mecca, over run with drunk falafel-starved students after SU club nights.

We braved a falafel wrap

We went to Falafel King to try it for ourselves and see what the manager had to say about the abysmal performance.

He initially agreed to speak to us, but after he took a phone call and left us waiting for 40 minutes, we called it a day.

Consumer review site Trip Advisor on the other hand had plenty to say about the establishment, with one user branding the staff  “beyond rude. Hostile” and another entitling their review “Stomach pain.”

Is it all over for Falafel King? Perhaps not.

Philosophy graduate Sam Walsh told The Tab: “I took my parents there after I graduated for big falafel wraps. While I was at uni I probably got food there three of four times a week.

“I guess I always knew at the back of my mind it’d never rank highly on hygiene, but even if I’d known, I’d have still definitely have gone as often as I did.”
