Hallam student waits for bus; hit by tree.

21 year-old Bethany Dybacz was rushed to hospital but escaped with only cuts and bruises.

A Sheffield Hallam student suffered a narrow escape last week after being hit by a falling tree whilst waiting for the bus.

Bethany Dybacz, 21, was at a bus stop on Eccleshall Road last Thursday when the sizable tree collapsed on top of her.

It was massive

It is believed the tree fell from a nearby garden due to being rotten.

The biology student was knocked unconscious and taken to Northern General hospital by ambulance, but surprisingly only suffered cuts and bruises.

Bethany told the Sheffield Star: “I was at the bus stop waiting to go to university, that’s the last thing I remember.

“The next thing I knew they were putting me onto the boards to go into the ambulance. People said the tree had hit me and I fell backwards after trying to move out of the way.

Rotten luck

“It was a shock to wake up in the ambulance. I just kept saying, ‘This is so surreal’.

“Nobody gets hit by a tree apart from lumberjacks. Even though I was really lucky, it is just weird.”

But Bethany’s dad is determined to have the last laugh; he is planning to use part of the tree to make a chopping board.

“My dad went to pick up my stuff and brought back a bit of the wood with him as a souvenir – he said we could make a chopping board out of it.

Now this is happening.

Bethany is said to be at home in Cheshire and is expected to make a full recovery.

The Tab says: It’s better to be safe than sorry. Please check for falling trees at all times.
