Fire Services were called to Hallam turf at the weekend after flats caught fire

Emergency services were called to Hallam territory as electrical fault causes a block of flats to burst into flames.

Firefighters were called after a fire at a student block of flats early on Sunday morning.

Fire Services were called to Devonshire Court on Sunday

Emergency services were called at 12:30 on Sunday morning to the Hallam halls, Devonshire Court, just off of West Street.

Despite all the excitement, the fire was apparently caused by a faulty light fitting in one of the corridors.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue reported that: “One of the students in the flat of four saw this, raised the alarm and alerted the others in the flat that there was a fire.”

Firefighters were on scene for over an hour and a half tackling the blaze.

Damage to the flat was limited to some smoke and carpet damage.

Ben, a first year product design student at Hallam witnessed the event;

“Four fire trucks arrived and stayed there for over an hour.”

“There were just loads of people everywhere, we didn’t know what was going on!” he added.
