Sheffield students engage in spot of heavy-petting

Ever felt so stressed you just needed to stroke something furry? The University is positively endorsing it.

Students at the University of Sheffield are being invited to play with puppies in between lectures.

As part of an avant-garde approach to stress-busting, Sheffield University students had the opportunity to get up close with some trainee puppies from the Guide Dog Association to help reduce their stress  levels; as well as enjoy a good cuppa and some cake.

OMG SO FLUFFY

The scheme, part of Sheffield University’s Mental health Day, trials animal-assisted therapy which is being tested out at Edinburgh University and is incredibly popular among American unis.

Louise Knowles, head of counselling and psychological wellbeing service at university, was surprised that over two hundred people arrived at the session and said that “We ran out of feedback forms and there were queues all down the road.

He’s such a happy puppy. Yes he is yes he is!

“All the students said they felt less stressed after the event”.

There have been several attempts to create a permanent puppy petting room in the Union as it is said to reduce stress, blood pressure, isolation and boredom.

So cute. we’re dying…

As well as helping to de-stress some of the students it also provided some of the students their first experience of petting a dog but if you’re just missing your pets from home then petting these pups would be the perfect thing to make you feel more at ease.  The University even adopted one of these adorable puppies named Mouse.

Business owners in London are also catching on to the heavy-petting trend, as a cat cafe opened in London this week where customers can sit and drink tea while they pet cats.

Hopefully the next puppy petting session is soon as The Tab will be first in line to cuddle these cute pooches.

The Tab loves dogs, and dogs love the Tab.
