Employment equality set in stone

Stonewall ranks Uni of Sheffield in top 100 employers for LGB staff.

Uni of Sheffield has been listed in the top 100 organisations in the UK for support and inclusiveness by gay rights charity Stonewall.

Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index placed Sheffield 82nd out of almost 400 organisations in the league table which recognises support for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) staff. This saw an impressive 24 place improvement on last years result.

The University was highlighted as a inclusive community to work in, with staff and students endorsing the supportive working environment.

Andrew Dodman, Director of Human Resources at the University of Sheffield, said: “I am delighted that the University of Sheffield has been named as a Top 100 employer by Stonewall.

“Our vision is to create a remarkable place to work, and LGBT equality is a key aspect of this. Being in the Top 100 serves to both acknowledge our efforts, and provides a strong platform for us to continue with this really important work.”

LGBT students and staff here at Sheffield have recently pioneered the ‘Storytelling LGBT’ project,  aiming to  document and celebrate the experiences of LGBT students and staff at the University.
