Food for those who don’t give a cluck

My housemate and I marched to Chicken Stop after an evening at the SU’s new night, Ugly. We were disappointed with the lack of people and on a hunt for a wild night. At first we thought we’d pop into Viper Rooms to get lost in their tunnels for a bit but that’s when we smelt it: the hypnotic aroma of burning chicken fat. There was only one way to finish the night. Little did we know that the night was only just beginning.

Firstly, I can highly recommend the 2-piece combo deal. It isn’t just maybe-chicken. It’s a selection box of Sheffield’s finest strips, wings and pieces of perfectly-cooked, juicy, tender, lightly-spiced probably-chicken. Also there’s chips. And it’s under £5.

We grabbed a (nearly) clean table but, before we could get our munch on, Chicken Stop transformed from late night eatery into crazy pop extravaganza. Everything from Shakira to PSY was on the playlist. We came for the funky Chicken, but stayed for the Gangnam Style.

If you go for no other reason, go for the people watching. It’s brilliant. Two girls broke into Hips Don’t Lie and danced (or fell) on the tables and one guy came in and just started touching people’s food. To this day we still don’t know why.

Sicken Stop

Among the hungry party goers were loads of freshers on their society bar crawls. We got chatting to three Economics students – we couldn’t really understand them between their mouthfuls. When asked what brought them to Chicken Stop they simply said: “You’ve got chicken. And chips. And there’s music. What more could you want?”

We couldn’t have agreed more. Most of the night was spent in Chicken Stop. It’s like a club but instead of a dance floor there’s chairs and instead of booze there’s chicken. Seriously, what more could you want?
