Plug Hosts Thatcher Death Party

Last night Plug put on an event called ‘Ding Dong Maggies Gone’. The Tab went down to take a look.

Plug Thatcher Party

On Wednesday night, Plug hosted a night of bands and booze to celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher.

The free event, called ‘Ding Dong Maggie’s Gone’, was organised by the organisation UK Uncut and put on at the Sheffield nightclub.

After a demonstration in Barker’s Pool, revellers headed to Plug where a series of bands played throughout the night. The crowd generated an energetic atmosphere, however the second – a.k.a. Dubstep – room of Plug was never in any danger of reaching capacity.

At the end of the evening, chants of “We’re having a party ‘cos Thatcher died” and “Maggie, Maggie, Maggie… Dead, Dead, Dead!” arose from some of the jubilant attendees.

Event description with popping bubbly to boot

The Tab spoke to a couple of people at the event. Chaz, a uni-of student clad in full WWI / II (?) army get-up, said “Tonight I’m out frankly celebrating…[Thatcher] was one of the most hated people in British history. Calling her a woman does a disservice to a large number of people. Calling her human does as well.”

Henry, also a student here, said “Today is not about celebrating the death of an old woman, but celebrating a tiny little bit of hope we’ve got now that this woman is finally gone. We can make society a good place for everyone to live in. And that’s why I’m here because that is something to celebrate.”

A 3 point guide to proceedings

The Tab contacted Plug, but they declined to comment on the decision to put on the event.
