This Royal Holloway student had part of his tuition fees paid by his best friend’s dad

A heartwarming act of generosity

George Okoro, a 21 year old business management student at Royal Holloway, was almost removed from the university after owing £21,570 worth of tuition fees.

Mr Okoro was reportedly struggling with tuition fees and living costs which, as any student will know, are at an all-time high. Royal Holloway undergraduate students from the UK pay £9,250 per academic year, while an international undergraduate studying business and management will pay almost double (£17,900).

In an act of incredible generosity, his best friend’s father, Noel Tagoe, paid off the remaining £19,860 worth of fees. Mr Okoro had previously started a crowdfunding page and raised £1,700.

Mr Okoro became friends with Kris Tagoe as the two studied together at the university. Having learned of his son’s friend’s plight, Mr Tagoe contributed towards Mr Okoro’s tuition, as to not complete his degree ‘would be a complete waste of his talent’.

The remaining donations on Mr Okoro’s GoFundMe page will be used in order to help other students in the future who struggle with the payment of fees.
