441 Bus Driver assaulted in Englefield Green

A group of young people threw snowballs at him

On Tuesday evening, police officers were called to an incident on Elmbank Avenue in Englefield Green shortly after 7pm after a group assaulted a bus driver.

The bus driver, who was operating the 441 Service by White Bus, alerted police officers that a group of five boys and one girl were throwing snowballs at him through an open bus door.

White Bus Services issued a statement to announce that the 441 Service, which runs between Staines and Englefield Green via Egham, was temporarily suspended while the driver sought medical attention.

Geoff Lovejoy, Operations Manager at White Bus Service, told The Royal Holloway Tab: “The driver was left badly shaken” after the incident, resulting in the cancellation of the two subsequent services that evening.

Surrey Police have not made any arrests and enquiries remain ongoing. They urge members of the public who witnesses the incident, or who have private CCTV, to call 101 and quote reference PR/45190007755 with any information that may assist their investigation.
