BBC will televise Varsity Rugby Match

They beat Sky to the rights

The BBC actually fought to have us to themselves.

The nation’s network once more have the rights to broadcast the Oxford and Cambridge Varsity rugby match live for the next five years, having beaten Sky for the rights.

The change is expected to increase viewers drastically, both in the UK and internationally. The BBC will also stream the match live on its website, meaning it will be free to watch for all.

This year Twickenham will host the women’s match for the first time ever – on the same day as the men’s match, Thursday 10th December.

Oxford and Cambridge have been battling it out over the Varsity Rugby match since 1872. Last year the Oxford Blues beat Cambridge with a whopping 43-6 victory.

Our prowess on the rugby field has led many to label us as the ‘brawn’ and Cambridge as the ‘brains’, but as we all know, Oxford is both.

We’ve already smashed the tabs five times in a row, but if we win this year it will be an all-time record.
