Your chance to get up in his grill
Last term, they brought you Kanye West. This term, The Guild’s got none other than legendary rapper Lil Jon.
The Grammy Award winning Turn Down for What artist is flying over from the US especially to give a talk to an intimate group of students at Exeter College tomorrow (Monday 11th) at 1.30pm.
Guild Chairman and refounder Abbas Kazmi said it was a “momentous occasion” and would be “an inspiring and insightful talk”.
Lil Jon, real name Jonathan Smith and known as the King of Crunk, has worked with Usher, Ciara, Snoop Dogg, David Guetta, Ludacris, Pitbull, Ice Cube and Britney Spears. He’s been on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice twice, coming 3rd in 2013.
Hit single Turn Down for What has been certified 3x Platinum and peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 100.
And his collaboration with Usher Yeah! topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for twelve consecutive weeks, hitting number one in fourteen countries.
Balloting for the event, which has strictly limited capacity, opens now – click here to ballot. Tickets will be released at 9PM and midnight tonight: successful balloters will be emailed and can buy tickets for £2. You’ll have two hours to buy tickets from when you’re sent the link.
The Guild will be recording the talk for YouTube, and live streaming the full Lil Jon event on Periscope @TheOxfordGuild.
Kazmi said: “We are delighted to be welcoming to Oxford such an exciting and high profile a speaker as the one and only Lil Jon and expect it to be a fascinating and memorable event.
“This is yet another great coup for the Guild which I am proud to see continuing to reach ever higher heights, truly dominating the UK university scene and winning ever more national awards and accolades for our services to our fellow students whose whole university experience we aim to improve.”
“This is yet another in a series of incredibly high profile speakers the Guild has lined up throughout this year and later on during the very same day we also have two other big talks – an entrepreneur panel discussion with the CEO of Barclays, and a fashion panel with founders of fashion blog Kayture.
“On Thursday the Guild also has supermodel Edie Campbell and many more exciting guests to follow throughout the coming months to the end of the year, catering for every taste and interest!
“That’s in addition to the Garden Social of the Summer (sold out in hours in record time!) and the adrenaline pumping Thorpe Park Ministry of Sound Trip Takeover, both this week!”
The Tab will bring you full coverage of Lil Jon’s talk, which is set to be nothing short of show stopping.
