Snow-go for Varsity: Tignes summit has a pathetic 60 centimetres of snow
Tensions mount as no snow on mountains
With less than a week to go till the Varsity ski trip, the mountains of Tignes are still looking pretty green.
Coaches and planes full of Oxford and Cambridge students will be heading for the resort in the French Alps on Saturday.
At the moment, there is a pathetic 60 centimetres of snow at the summit, and none at all at the base. Only 10 out of 159 trails are open, and 9 out of 89 lifts.
A further seven centimetres of snow is expected on Thursday and five centimetres on Friday, but Oxford students aren’t optimistic.
Second year E&M student, Anna Daly said: “I was really looking forward to skiing. What are we meant to do now? Snowshoeing is for the middle-aged.”
To make matters worse, Ski trip provider NUCO Travel only gives compensation for piste closure between January and April.
Outraged Trinity English student, Mathis Clement said: “Where is the fucking snow? I’m not paying 600 quid to go and drink in a ski resort. This is such shit. Fucking NUCO cunts.”
