The Tab Goes to Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair
A day at Oxford’s favourite fair scouting the student body’s best dressed vintage aficionados
This weekend The Tab stopped by Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair: each term Lou Lou’s fills the Town Hall with incredible vintage pieces at a fraction of the price of what you would normally find in vintage shops (skirts for £5? How could you resist, and their furs are to die for).
It’s easy to while away your whole afternoon there as it’s much more than just clothing stalls. With a cafe, beauty salon (where you can get your own beehive ‘do) and live music it’s almost like a one day festival of all things vintage.
We hit the Fair with a mission, however – to find the best dressed vintage lovers (disappointingly there weren’t that many, step up your game Oxford) and ask them why buying and wearing clothes that belonged to a stranger who’s probably already deceased is so appealing.
I mean, “…is that your grandma’s coat?”
“I like the fur and my friend loves the sequins. Whenever she sees sequins we’re just like, SEQUINS!”
“For me it’s the 40s and 50s silhouette”
“The quality. The fabrics and patterns just aren’t the same anymore.”
“It’s so unique and different from anything else”
“EVERYTHING!”
“It’s just so hipster”
Pretty much sums it up.
Catch Lou Lou’s next time they’re in town by keeping up with their Facebook page.
