Best Dressed: Bridge of Sighs Commemoration Ball

The snazziest outfits and most marvellous masks at Hertford’s white tie ball

The night before the start of Freshers Week, students and alumni of Hertford College and their friends gathered to celebrate the 100 years of the existence of the Bridge of Sighs, the pride and glory of the college (and one of Oxford’s main tourist attractions). The party spilled out of the college grounds onto the picturesque Catte Street, true carnival style.

The theme of the ball was “Venetian Masquerade”, dress code: white tie, with masks, naturally.

We bring you the ball’s best dressed revellers and the best masks (to make the guys feel better about always having to wear the same damn thing).

The detailing of these two dresses is on point. Beautiful.

Same goes for all four dresses here.

Redundant photo taking but props for bringing back the eternally classy gloved look and an amazing fur coat.

More impressive fur. Good thing PETA weren’t invited.

Poor guy thought it was Halloween. Or maybe it was meant to be ironic.

Definitely outclassed.

strong masks all round

It may not be Christmas yet but this girl is ready for all the parties this season. Gorgeous sequin number.

Beautiful example of why halter neck dresses are actually very elegant.

Absolutely incredible headpiece. chanelling her inner Aztec

Bit evocative of Full Moon Party face paint but definitely an interesting spin on ‘wear a mask’

And as usual Out of the Blue stole the show, sartorially as well.
