Oxford Hub bags prestigious award from the Queen

Charity led by Oxford students nabs award dubbed ‘the MBE for charities’ in Queen’s honours


The Oxford Hub has bagged the Queen’s Award For Voluntary Services for this year. The award has been dubbed ‘the MBE for charities’.

The award has been given to 111 charitable organisations around the country. The Hub is the only Oxfordshire group to receive the honour.

The Hub’s seventeen projects include working with local young carers, homeless people and Oxfordshire hospice Helen and Douglas house. It is run by fourteen students and led by President Henry Owen who is a Biomedic at Univ.

Their mission statement is to “catalyse students’ involvement with social and environmental challenges in Oxford and around the world [and] work to create a culture change in UK universities so that student-powered social change becomes the norm and not the exception – inspiring socially active citizens for life”.

The prestigious award is managed by the Cabinet Office and marks the anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.

Student representatives from the Hub have been invited to a garden party reception with fellow award winners.
