Tab Tries: Art at Freud
We went to the Psychological art exhibition at Freud and liked what we saw
It was very liberating today to have come to the conclusion that I like to look at art, not read about it. This much was true of the “Psychological” art exhibition, when we binned the guide and just really looked, y’know, showcasing the work of Ruskin art students tangentially centred around the human mind.
There was a plethora of mixed-media art on offer, from a visceral, striking display of abstracted blood bags taking centre stage, to a piece of coloured fabric artfully dangling from the altar, which was to be the place of a performance art piece later in the evening.
The use of space and lighting turned Freuds into a veritable mecca of modern installation pieces. Seriously, what can that place not achieve? It is Oxford’s best kept secret. Spacious yet intimate, it was the ideal setting for letting the art speak for itself.
You should really come to this exhibition because it’s free, it’s nearby, it’s really good, and you can tell all your friends how edgy and arty you are.
The Psychological Exhibition at Freud runs until 9th week and you can find more information here
