Funding Black Hole for Humanities Library

Construction to be put on hold until University coughs up the cash

Over a year after work on the site ground to a halt, construction has still not started on a massive £40m library at the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, on Woodstock Road.

The Radcliffe Humanities building had been set to be the centre piece of the site, and was meant to be the last piece of the £200m project to be built.

So… Close…

The Tab has received reports of arts students falling to the ground dumbstruck after hearing the news.

Both the Humanities Division and the Bodleian Libraries are still undecided  over what to do next.

A member of the local association said: “You could have a meadow there”.

Isn’t this much more useful than a library?

Currently, the area is still boarded up and the university are refusing to comment until discussions have concluded.

This problem has apparently been known for some time: the university had admitted last May that it did not have the needed funding.

Earlier this week the University revealed that it was still not in a position to fund the project, and as a result the future of the library at all may be in doubt.
