College crewdate cancelled as an email with a ‘misogynistic tone’ is leaked.

| UPDATED

As an email with the subject line “FREE PUSSY” is sent out to fifty people, it looks like the Pembroke Rugby team are going to have to put their crewdating plans on hold for a bit.

In a gigantic PR nut punch for Pembroke College Rugby Club (PCRFC), the club’s Social Secretary sent out an email briefing of an upcoming crewdate to the 50-person mailing list, with instructions that have been interpreted as “incomprehensible [and] shocking.”

The email contained details of an upcoming crewdate in which each Rugby player brings a female fresher along as a “date”, as well as three bottles of wine each.

The email also explained how there will be a challenge for  each player to include a “substance of your choice” inside their date’s wine, which could be “anything you like…..but not your sperm”.

The email was sent 1.36pm this past Monday, and also included requests for one member of the team, referred to as ‘ Mr. Bunsen (Flame)’, to “Please bring a positive pregnancy test”, and added that “This task shall be ongoing until you succeed.”

The email also contained  a challenge for members of PCRFC to dress up as villains, whether film, historical or imaginary.

Reception to the email has been strongly negative from the JCR Committee.

In a statement sent out to the student press today signed by JCR President Rebecca Howe as well as the Women’s Officer and Sports Rep, the email was condemned as ‘deeply offensive’, and went on to say ‘We are outraged and offended.’

The statement also raised questions about the safety of those who were going on the crewdate, saying “there is very little about the email that suggests any level of respect for the women of Pembroke.”

Not so much of this anymore.

However, the letter did go on to say that “PCRFC does not deserve to be seen as a sexist organisation” and also said “we find it deeply unfair to the wider membership of PCRFC that the actions of a few central committee members have [damaged] the whole club.”

Reactions from around the university have been overwhelmingly critical, with the editor of feminist magazine ‘Cuntry Living’ claiming the email “is another example of sinister misogyny.”

The Dean of Pembroke College, Dr. Clive Siviour, said that “The content of this e-mail is completely unacceptable, and I am taking the appropriate action on behalf of the College authorities.”

A response from Pembroke Rugby Club admitted that the email was “entirely misguided and represent a serious case of poor judgement.”

The Social Secretary responsible for the email has since apologised to all those who were offended by the email, and has resigned.
