May Day, an annual excuse to stay up all night outside the library is almost upon us. The 12 hour test of endurance and alcohol tolerance looms: you know where you’ll be at 6, but the rest is all just one Pimms-fuelled blur.

The Essentials
Magdalen College choir sing the Hymnus Eucharisticus from the Great Tower at 6am. Great for a hangover headache.
Morris Dancers will move through the city (Radcliffe Square, Catte Street and Broad Street)
Magdalen Bridge will be a temptation for anyone who fancies some short-term celebrity and a longer-term injury to their legs and/or back from 4.30am until 9am – those who fancy a dip, bring a wetsuit.
Eat
Shun kebab vans for a May Day midnight fix and sample these special offerings instead:
Big Bang – bangers and mash and a bloody mary, accompanied by jazz group Paul Matthews & Paul Jefferies to get the party started
Quod – opens at 5am for legendary bacon rolls. Start queueing at midnight…
Turl Street Kitchen – open all night, with a special May Day menu: TSK Full English, Huevos Rancheros, Porridge and ‘6am Gin’
Mission Burrito: the only fast food available around the clock on Tuesday. Essential stomach-lining fare
Ashmolean – for the more languid, brunch will be served from 10am on the roof. The perfect viewpoint to watch weary revellers staggering to tutes across St Giles
Drink
Most pubs will close. Don’t despair! Quench your thirst at the following watering holes
Turf and the King’s Arms open at 5am for the first drink of the day
The Bear opens at 6 with an outdoor bar, music and breakfast grill in the garden
For a quiet pint, lose the crowds at The White Horse, Angel & Greyhound and The Grapes, serving from 6-9. After that, you should probably stop drinking and go home…
Be Merry
For those who can’t bear abandoning Camera, Oxford offers a plethora of parties
